Bata South Africa a Shoe In for CSI Initiatives

Bata South Africa’s social initiatives were recently recognised at the inaugural Great Impact Lifestyle Awards for the most Impactful CSI Award by a Private Organisation. The award honours Bata South Africa for embarking on a strategic social initiative programme that was relevant, effective and had a direct impact to vulnerable sectors of society.

The Great Impact Lifestyle Awards were founded by Mrs. Thobekile Ndlovu and the awards acknowledge and recognise individuals and organisations that are making impactful contributions to communities to bolster a healthy, progressive and impactful society. The awards ceremony was held at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) on 2nd November 2017 and Alex Gordon, Head of the Non-Retail Sales Division at Bata South Africa was on hand to receive the award.

Bata South Africa was also recognised for the Bata Children’s Programme (BCP) which was launched in 2010. The BCP focuses on helping disadvantaged children in four identified key areas of development where a difference can be made. These areas include education, health, safety and mentoring skills.

The Bata Children’s Programme South Africa have empowered underprivileged children in South Africa through a variety of initiatives:

  • BCP SA in partnership with Project Build constructed a new school in Sihambakancane School, which caters for the needs of disabled children in the surrounding communities.
  • BCP SA has a close relationship with Qhubekani Pre-School in the Loskop area, where the Bata factory is located. Numerous visits to the school are conducted throughout the year to enrich the lives of the children.
  • BCP offered Grade 12 learners from Enkomokazini Tech work environment experience when they spent time in the laboratory and workshop at the Loskop factory.

The #Bata67Steps campaign, part of Bata’s Mandela Day initiative, called on members of the public to nominate a worthy organisation across South Africa via social media to receive 67 pairs of Toughees school shoes. 67 Schools across South Africa received a donation of shoes.

“We are most thankful to The Great Impact Lifestyle Awards for this incredible honour”, says John Harman, Bata South Africa Country Manager. “At Bata South Africa we believe that all children should be provided with the opportunity to reach their full potential and so our BCP objectives are geared to making a positive impact on children’s lives, as well as on the lives of those around them.”
