Walking the Long Walk with School Children for Over 60 Years

Toughees owned by global footwear manufacturer and retailer, Bata South Africa is calling on the South African public to identify 67 schools around the country who are in desperate need of school shoes. The public can recommend their school via the Toughees Facebook Page using the hashtag #Bata67Steps.

To commemorate Nelson Mandela Day and Month, the school footwear giant is looking to assist 4,489 pupils from around the country.

“Our shoe brand, Toughees has walked with school children for nearly 60 years, it has been the choice of shoe for those who walked a few metres and for those who have walked many kilometres just to get to school and have an education” says Khutjo Madisha, Toughees Brand Manager at Bata South Africa.

“The campaign that we are embarking on is more than just putting shoes on feet” says Madisha. “It’s about giving children their pride back and giving them confidence to achieve their dreams”

The school shoe brand has earned its reputation as a classic and was originally designed to meet the needs of South African children.

In addition, Bata South Africa is also willing to support organisations who want to donate school shoes, by extending a discount on bulk purchases.
